SiRF and Ford SYNC Technology Synchronized

lincoln-gpsSurely you already heard about the Ford SYNC technology, a platform on the board, mainly for communication and entertainment. However, the system is flexible and allows for expansion by allowing other platforms to take advantage of the bus architecture ‘in vehicles SYNC.

In fact, in late January that Ford will we announced a couple of new features that allow their vehicles to obtain traffic information via INRIX and get driving directions using TeleNav SiRF hardware.

The new GPS module of M/A-COM Technology Solutions integrates a SiRF GPS receiver for high-precision GPS software running SiRFDRive2, a dedicated GPS antenna, a microprocessor and memory controller and a CAN bus connector and associated software to create a “server location” on the vehicle that allows the location of the vehicle.

The interesting thing about the new platform used in SiRF is that Ford really is able to communicate with other sensors in the car as the speedometer and odometer to get a better sense of position when GPS signals are unreliable.
