Gametrak Freedom and SmartStylus: for Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS
In yesteday’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Performance Designed Products (PDP) has two drivers for popular game systems, the Gametrak Freedom for Xbox 360 and the SmartStylus for the Nintendo DS portable console.
The Gametrak Freedom is a device like the Wiimote from Nintendo that uses motion sensing technology for 3D ultrasound that sends signals to a base unit connected to a PC via a USB port.
Unlike the Nintendo remote system or the like, Gametrak Freedom does not require users to point to the screen or a sensor, since the movements are followed by their 3D position. Up to four players can use the controller at the same time.
The SmartStylus, accessory for Nintendo DS, is in its prototype stage. Unanswered vibration responses may include LEDs, sound and movement. The latter will allow users to send control inputs to the portable game console, even when the pen is not near the DS.
While the Gametrak Freedom was adopted by Microsoft for the production, SmartStylus still needs the stamp of Nintendo.
